- A back garden fully refurbished and fenced for daily outdoor play
- A well-equipped kitchen where our chefs prepare onsite meals and snacks
A historic Parish Church for the Crofton Park area, St Hilda’s has a rich history of diversity and community, welcoming a varied congregation and enjoying all people. We strive to keep St Hilda’s legacy alive in our nurseries’ traditions and approach to childcare.

Our approach
Here at The Cottage Day Nursery we have a great understanding of our children’s lives and social contexts, and base our teachings around them.
Our top priority is to support and encourage personal development, autonomy and creativity. An equally important role in our work is to develop social interaction and understanding of others, as well as supporting you, the parent, in bringing up your child.
We aim to raise well-rounded children by strengthening your child’s
- Personal emotional development
- Social interaction amongst adults and peers
- Literary and numerical education
- Musical and artistic appreciation
- Physical education and development
Our Day
A Typical Cottage Day
Daily routine gives children a much needed sense of security.
This is why we work to make sure each day is properly structured while allowing enough time for spontaneous activities.
By implementing the EYSF, We aim to teach our children that learning is fun and exciting, that they’re smart, confident and able to reach their full potential. By implementing our curriculum along with the child’s natural willingness to learn and experiment, we develop self-confidence and a positive attitude towards education and life.

Settling In
Settling-in to the nursery environment is an important part of the day. Catering to different arrival times, our arranged morning activities allow children to join in freely when and as they wish.
08:30 - 09:00
Breakfast
A breakfast of cereal, toast, fruit and milk is served between 08:30 and 09:00 (we expect children arriving later in the morning to have eaten beforehand).

Structured Group Activities
Our staff are trained to realise the full learning potential of the children’s activities and structuring these in small groups enables the desired learning outcomes to be best achieved. Outside play is essential to the wellbeing of your child and therefore an essential part of our life at Cottage Day. We encourage supervised play in the nursery garden and bring the children in contact with nature as much as possible to increase their understanding of environment and life.
11:00 - 12:30
Lunch
Lunch is served in age groups between 11:00 and 12:30 with babies served first, followed by toddlers, and finally preschool.
After Lunch
Nap or rest time
After lunch some children will need to recuperate before the afternoon’s activities. Supervised naps allow the younger children to recharge their batteries ready for the rest of the day. Alternatively there are continued activities for the children to take part in.
